For Custom Entryways and Breeze Entryways
In almost all areas of the US and Canada, building codes require safety glass to be used in all doors and sidelights. International Building Codes require that this glass have an indelible mark indicating it as such. There are two kinds of safety glass, tempered and laminated.
While laminated glass has its purposes, and can be special-ordered when the needs arise, we typically use tempered glass in our products. Tempered glass is available in a wide variety of textures and tints. Some textures are only on one side of the glass, while other patterns have texture on both sides of the glass. If the glass has texture on both sides, it cannot be assembled into an insulated glass unit (also called IG, dual-pane or dual-glazed.)
Smoother textures are available as either single-glazed or dual-glazed. When an IG unit is made, it will have the tinted or textured glass on one side, usually facing the exterior. Clear tempered glass is used on the other side, usually facing the interior.
Building codes allow inspectors to waive the safety glass requirement for “art glass” only if the art glass cannot meet safety standards. Leaded glass (stained glass), etched glass, and carved glass are exempt from the safety requirement. However, all of these art glasses can be assembled into insulated glass units.

Leaded Glass and Stained Glass:
Until 2021 we offered stained and carved glass created by Terri Bonham. Unfortunately, Terri has retired and we have chosen to discontinue artglass for the foreseeable future. If you want art glass in your door and you have an artglass fabricator in your area, we are happy to build your entryway “open-for-glass”. We will work with your glass artist, providing all dimensions and materials required to install the glass after it is delivered.
We regret this inconvenience and will continue to provide all of the clear, tinted, and textured glass types as shown above.
Etched and Carved Glass:
Custom etched and carved glass is no longer available through Terri Bonham Art Glass.
Standard Leaded Glass for Breeze Doors:
As seen elsewhere on the web site, Terri Bonham has created standard leaded glass windows for Breeze doors. They were available single-glazed (S1) or insulated (S3). The main field is a textured pattern of sycamore leaves surrounded by an inside border of bevels and water glass, and an outside border of glue-chip glass. This glass is no longer available.
Standard Leaded Glass for Light Breeze Doors:
Terri also designed a standard leaded glass window for the Light Breeze door, also single-glazed or insulated. The main field is a textured pattern of oak leaves with similar borders as above. No longer available.
