Do you install doors?
While we have installed doors locally in the past, we do not currently have the facilities available for installation. However we gladly refer local customers to the following:

In general, long-distance customers must secure their own installer. This could be a General Contractor, Finish Carpenter, Trim Carpenter, or Handyman. These professionals can usually be found in the local phone book or by internet search. Most Door Shops have installers on staff. You can even go to the Lowe’s or Home Depot service desk and ask for a referral.

How long have you been in business?
Doug started woodworking in 1971 and opened his first woodworking business, Walden Woodworks, in Orange County, California in 1978. The business moved to Durango, Colorado in 1985 and the name was changed simply to Doug Christie, Doormaker. In 1999, with the addition of staff, the business name was changed to Christie’s Wood and Glass. Forty-four years in business, thirty-seven years in Durango.

Do you make “normal” doors like a four-panel door?
We make wood doors of all designs. Since many of these designs are common and seen on many web sites, we are less inclined to feature photos of them here.
Do you build other products in addition to doors?
We used to. Since the creation of the Breeze, our shop has become more streamlined for its production. Today, we would have to look at the specific project to see how it would affect our production schedule, but we rarely say “no” to our customers.

What is the process for ordering an entryway?
We are in it with you from design to delivery. Frankly, some projects are easy and others require a little more effort. The customer needs to provide a few bits of information regarding size and configuration. These are called the Specifications. Often, the builder or installer will provide this data.
We then move on to Options, which will define your door’s appearance. We then have all the information to provide a quote. For more information, go here.

Are your doors maintenance-free?
We’ve never encountered a maintenance-free door. I believe that steel and fiberglass doors require maintenance less often, but they are greatly limited in design. Refinishing a door is not a large task if it is done promptly when needed. The longer you put it off, the greater the task can become.
I’ve heard wood doors don’t last as long as steel or fiberglass. How long will your doors last?
Steel doors were introduced in the late 1960’s. Fiberglass doors were introduced in 1983. Since neither has been around that long, their longevity is speculation. Steel and fiberglass doors have limited design capabilities and their repair techniques are not those of woodwork repairs.
The oldest known wood door was discovered in Switzerland in 2010. Archaeologists estimate it to be 5,000 years old. I’m not saying it still functioned as a door, but it was recognizable as a door! The oldest wood door in Great Britain that is still in use today is on Westminster Abbey. It is nearly 1,000 years old. Our doors will last indefinitely as long as they are maintained. Occasionally we receive photos, inquiries, and information regarding doors we made over 35 years ago. The stories are amazing and fun to read.

We typically respond the same day. A little longer under extenuating circumstances. It is most likely that our response is in your “Junk Mail” folder. People use a variety of different e-mail services with sundry rules and settings. All we know at our end is that the e-mail was sent and we did not receive a notification that the e-mail was “undeliverable”. If we do receive such a notice, we endeavor to find an alternate way of getting the information to you.
Typically our contact with clients will include the body of the e-mail message and attachments as requested. Quotes, invoices and such are sent as .PDF documents. We may send photos in .jpg format. These formats are usually recognized on most computers and phones. Adobe Reader is a free download for the .pdf documents if you don’t already have the capability installed on your device. We will never send an executable file (.exe) or a file that did not originate with us unless you specifically requested it.
Your contact from us will typically come from christies@entryways.com or christieswoodandglass@gmail.com. Occasionally we may send from @breezedoors.com. We highly suggest that you “whitelist” these domains on your e-mail account or add them to your “safe senders” list.
If you find our messages to you in your Spam Folder, simply identify them as “Report Not Spam”. We have neither the time nor the inclination to bother our customers with unwanted e-mails, but we do need a reliable pathway for important contact. Your e-mail account might move our e-mails to “Junk” simply because our domain is private or our service provider is not.
What happened to your prices? Many of them have disappeared!
Covid! Inflation! I’m surprised they’re not both four-letter words! It was always understandable that our pricing on the Project Pages might be a little bit off due to fluctuating production costs, but the gap between the cost of a project four years ago versus today just became too great to ignore. We are gradually re-populating the pricing on Project Pages and we have created a new Pricing page under the General Information tab to help you out.
Do you repair hardware for for local customers?
We repair or replace the hardware we sell per the hardware company’s warranty restrictions. If the hardware is older or out-of-warranty, we recommend Nicole at Bob’s Lock and Key .
